Fire Blanket InspectionsFire blankets are inspected 6 monthly. Blankets must be accesible and located where they can be easily accessed in the event of a fire. The most common mistake made when installing a fire blanket is the location chosen. Often we see the blanket located on the wall behind a stovetop or deep fryer. If thesedevices catch fire, You would actually need to reach directly into thefire to access the blanket. Bugs also can find these a great place to build a nest.
Fire Hose Reel InspectionsFire hose reels are also required to undergo inspections on a 6 monthly basis. Accessto fire hose reels need to be kept clear at all times. It is not permitted by law to use fire hose reelsfor any purpose other than use on fires. e.g. it is is illegal to use them for washing cars, footpaths, etc.
Fire Extinguisher InspectionsFire extinguishers are required to be inspected every 6 Months, and pressure tested every 5 years. Extinguishers are required to be easily accessible and have clear instructions marked on the extinguisher. Location signage is also required. Extinguishers need to be mounted at no less then 100m from the floor and the top of the extinguisher is not to be higher than 1200m from the floor. Water and Foam extinguishers will also require decanting and refilling every 12 months. This makes Dry Chemical extinguishers a lot more popular due to not having to have these emptied and refilled annually. Extinguishers obviously require refilling after discharge, even if only slightly discharged.
